Fort Weyr Southern Weyr

T'ron (also called T'ton) was Oldtimer Weyrleader at Fort Weyr when the Eighth Pass ended.

Biography[]

Eighth Pass[]

T'ron impressed bronze Fidranth in his youth during the Eighth Pass. While still in the Eighth Pass, Fidranth flew Fort's senior queen Loranth, whose rider was Weyrwoman Mardra, resulting in T'ron becoming Weyrleader of Fort Weyr.

During the first year of the Eighth Interval, Lessa, Weyrwoman of Benden Weyr, traveled back in Time from late in the Eighth Interval to ask the Weyrs to come forward to assist in the fight against Thread during the Ninth Pass. After learning that Benden Weyr was the only remaining Weyr in the future, T'ron, who had grown bored with the peaceful interval, agreed to go forward. Five Weyrs agreed to fly back to the future with Lessa.

Ninth Pass[]

After arriving in the Ninth Pass, T'ron initially had a good relationship with F'lar, Weyrleader of Benden Weyr, due to Fort's status as the oldest Weyr, T'ron's experience and their united desire to fight Thread. However, relations became strained as T'ron came to dislike the more modern ways that Benden Weyr espoused. T'ron often rejected the ideas that F'lar presented because he preferred to stick to Eighth Pass beliefs - that the Holds and Crafts were to be subservient to the Weyrs.

Things finally came to a head when it became known that T'kul, Weyrleader of High Reaches Weyr had failed to muster his riders for an unexpected fall. Believing that the other Weyrleaders would force him to make T'kul step down as Weyrleader, T'ron ultimately decided to kill F'lar to remove the threat to his power. At the wedding of Lord Asgenar and Lady Famira at Telgar Hold, T'ron instigated a duel between himself and F'lar, which F'lar won.

After T'ron had been stabbed, non-fatally, in the chest, F'lar issued an ultimatum; all who did not wish to recognize his authority were to be banished to the Southern Continent. F'lar was supported in this decision by the Lord Holders and Craftmasters, as well as the majority of Weyrleaders.

Exile to Southern Weyr[]

Following the outcome of the battle, T'ron was transported directly to Southern Weyr, wrapped in heavy felt so as to not aggravate his injury. T'kul, who had been Weyrleader at High Reaches Weyr, became a wingleader when he also moved to Southern Weyr.

Death[]

In The Renegades of Pern date 15.05.22, Toric told Piemur that all the male dragons were gone from Southern Weyr. Piemur discovered that, after T'ron's death from an apparent illness, T'kul took over as weyrleader of Southern Weyr. He then, apparently, took all male dragons and their riders away from the Weyr to an undisclosed location. It was later learned that someone had stolen Ramoth's gold egg.

In Dragon's Code, after T'ron discovered that Mardra had been involved with the stealing of Ramoth's gold egg, T'ron took the dragons and their riders away. When B'naj and Piemur found the dragonriders twenty-five Turns back in Time, Piemur convinced them to return.

Personality and Traits[]

Since Crafts and Holds were completely subservient to the Weyrs during the Eighth Pass, T'ron held the belief that the Weyrs continued to be superior to the Crafts and Holds in the Ninth Pass. This clashed with the fact that both Crafts and Holds had gained more power during the extended, four hundred Turn Eighth Interval. In the end, T'ron had little use for the modernizations that F'lar had introduced, always preferring traditional ways.

T'ton or T'ron?[]

In the 'The People of Pern' section at the end of Dragonflight, Dragonquest and The White Dragon, it says, "T’ron: Oldtimer Weyrleader at Fort Weyr; banished to Southern Weyr; dragon bronze Fidranth; also called T’ton".

In the 'At Southern Weyr' section at the beginning of Dragondrums, he is listed as "T’ron—dragonrider".
