Purman, birth name Peter Tubberman, was a zoologist on Pern during the First Pass. He changed his name from "Peter" to "Purman" after the death of his father.
History[]
Purman was born at Calusa Stake to Mary and Ted Tubberman. After his father was Shunned for sending a homing beacon illicitly, Purman helped his father with his projects. When his father was killed by the big predators he had been breeding and the Tubberman family returned to Landing, Ned tried to get more information from Purman about the grubs his father had created. After Ned and Drake Bonneau saw the grubs in action, Ned told Emily Boll, Pol Nietro and Bay Harkenon about them. Pol then asked Purman about the large predators that had killed Ted and whether they had spots or stripes. Purman told Pol that they had spots, and they were called "cheetahs" who were used to hunt big tunnel snakes.
Purman worked at the Benden Hold Vintnercraft and other fields and developed vine-grubs to protect grapes and other plants from disease.
When Purman came to the infirmary after the Benden watch-wher had attacked his son Tieran, Wind Blossom remembered Purman as a young boy named Peter whom she had spoken with long ago.
Purman was later killed in a rock slide, and Tieran heard about the accident via a drum message.
