Orlith was a gold dragon at Ista Weyr and Fort Weyr during the Sixth Pass. Her rider was Fort Senior Weyrwoman Moreta.
Biography[]
Hatching[]
According to Moreta, she was "scooped up and taken to Ista in a scurry" on the same day as the hatching, told to change, then shoved onto the Hatching Ground. Later, Moreta told Oklina, "Orlith forgave me for being late!"
Transfer to Fort[]
Ten Turns before becoming Fort Weyr's senior queen dragon, Orlith used her agile maneuvering to allow young Moreta to save Lord Leef's cherished fruit trees, by searing threadfall to harmless char with her flamethrower. In her later years, Orlith was often praised for her flying skills.
Senior Queen[]
Orlith became the senior queen dragon at Fort Weyr when Holth didn't rise to mate.
During a Gather at Ruatha Hold, Orlith told Moreta that a sick runnerbeast could not breathe because its lungs were full of liquid. It was not common knowledge that Moreta and Orlith worked together in healing. Orlith was supportive of Moreta when she became ill after contact with the recently-dead infected runnerbeast. Leri then advised all dragons to do the same, in order to keep their riders alive.
Later, Orlith helped Moreta with diagnosing problems with dragons and runners, while Leri kept the other dragonriders' dragons calm while they were ill. Orlith and Moreta also worked together with Holth to help control the pain of dragons.
Orlith and Moreta disciplined a weyrling, T'ragel, and his blue Keranth for coming out of between with the rock face a scant few feet away from his wingtips.
Personality and traits[]
To Moreta, Orlith's mind-voice was not as firm, rich or deep as Holth's. But, Orlith was eager and young and said that Holth was a great dragon.
Orlith didn't enjoy interchanges with watch-whers, who she considered to be simple-minded beasts, but she did continue to try to find any information that was available about illness in the Holds.
