Benden Weyr Southern Weyr High Reaches Monaco Bay Weyr

Mirrim was a dragonrider during the Ninth Pass. Her dragon was green Path. Her weyrmate was T'gellan.

Biography[]

Mirrim was the daughter of blue rider L'trel and an unknown holder who disowned her. Originally from Benden Weyr, she followed Manora around until she was fostered by Brekke at Southern Weyr.

At Southern Weyr, Mirrim helped Brekke care for the injured riders who were sent to Southern to recover. While there, Mirrim impressed three fire lizards: two greens, Reppa and Lok, and one brown, Tolly. After the Oldtimers were exiled to Southern, Mirrim moved with Brekke to High Reaches Weyr.

After Brekke's queen dragon Wirenth died during her first mating flight, Brekke and Mirrim were taken to Benden Weyr by F'nor. Mirrim cared deeply for Brekke and helped F'nor and Manora tend to her while she was catatonic and recovering from the death of Wirenth.

While at Benden, Mirrim also cared for Menolly, who had run her feet raw while trying to escape from Threadfall. The two girls quickly became friends, despite Mirrim's difficult personality.

Mirrim was too afraid to watch the hatching where Brekke was asked to stand on the sands a second time. Even though Brekke did not impress the new queen dragon, Mirrim was relieved that the hatching helped Brekke recover from her loss.

Mirrim later Impressed green Path, becoming the first female during the Ninth Pass to Impress a dragon other than a gold. While females impressing greens was a custom that was common in the early centuries of Pernese history, it had stopped sometime after the Second Pass.

During the early exploration of the Southern Continent, Mirrim accompanied the Benden Weyrleaders, in an attempt to see if Jaxom's white dragon Ruth could organize the memories of the local fire lizards. However, Mirrim was sent back to Benden after making a harsh remark regarding Ruth's apparent sterility.

According to The People of Pern, after T'gellan and Mirrim became weyrmates, Mirrim learned that T'gellan, rider of bronze Monarth, had been patiently waiting for her for a long time. Mirrim and T'gellan moved to Eastern Weyr when he became the new Weyrleader. She was on good terms with the Weyrwoman Talina and showed no jealousy or other problems with her weyrmate's regular sexual contact with Talina during mating flights.

In All the Weyrs of Pern, after Landing and AIVAS were rediscovered, Mirrim assisted in the fight to end Thread. Mirrim and Path often transported people to and from the three colony ships. Mirrim was also one of the riders who sowed parasite-infested ovoids on the Red Star.

After Readis and Alemi discovered that dolphins could talk, then Alemi related what they discovered to AIVAS, Mirrim was told she was pregnant after she was introduced to the dolphin Tana. Tana remarked, "Sonar tells truth about wo-man body." When Mirrim related the story to AIVAS, AIVAS explained to Mirrim that Dolphin Sonar allowed dolphins to see minute changes in body mass. For that reason, dolphins could accurately diagnose pregnancy, bodily tumors, growths and other illnesses in their early stages. Mirrim later had a fine son, Gellim.

During the Fireball Flood, Mirrim assisted with the evacuation of all coastal areas, focusing mostly on Monaco Bay Weyr. In the aftermath, she accused Tai of abandoning the work in favor of saving her own supplies. Tai was declared innocent by Golanth, who had spoken with Tai's dragon Zaranth, and Mirrim was told to drop the subject.

Personality and traits[]

Known to be an extremely temperamental rider, Mirrim was forthright, bossy and, at times, unthinking in her acidic remarks that often wounded others. Despite her acerbic personality, Menolly usually defended her, stating that Mirrim was a good friend of hers. After entering a relationship with T'gellan, she mellowed out slightly.

Note[]

On several occasions in The Dolphins of Pern, Mirrim is referred to as Minim.
