Benden Weyr Telgar Weyr

Lorana was a Queenrider at Benden Weyr in the Third Pass. She helped cure the plague which decimated the dragons of her time. However, she lost her queen Arith in the process.

Lorana had two fire lizards before impressing Arith at Benden Weyr: gold Garth and brown Grenn.

After the loss of Arith, her young queen, Lorana and Kindan move to Telgar Weyr with the appointment of Fiona as Telgar's Weyrwoman and rider of the senior queen, Talenth, where they along with T'mar find themselves in a polyamorous relationship.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Lorana traveled with her father Sannel, a beastcraftmaster, and learned much from him. She used her skill in drawing to help her father, who used it to keep track of the breeding of his animals. The crazed beast that killed Lorana's father also snapped the wing of Lorana's fire lizard Grenn, which Lorana set and helped him heal.

The Wind Rider[]

Lorana met J'trel when he came to tell Lord Holder Carel about the passing of Carel's brother K'nad, who had been J'trel's weyrmate over twenty turns. Lorana befriended J'trel before he and his dragon Talith went between forever. Before he left, J'trel took Lorana to Ista Sea Hold and arranged with Captain Tanner for Lorana to take the Wind Rider to Half-Circle Sea Hold as the ship's healer. After Colfet convinced Lorana to get into a launch, Lorana was forced to send her fire lizards away when the launch began to sink. The fire lizards, both sick, ended up going back in time, to Wind Blossom. Only Grenn survived. At the Lorana later learned that Grenn survived after she received a locket from Tullea, who had taken it from the Learning Room in Benden Weyr.

The Dragon Plague[]

Lorana was the only one from her family to live through the flu pandemic, having lost her mother, brother and sister to the illness. She worked with M'tal, and, like Torene, could hear/speak to all dragons. Her high empathy also allowed her to feel each dragon going Between to die. Along with Kindan, Ketan, M'tal, and Salina, she studied the information left in the hidden rooms by Wind Blossom and used it to cure the Plague. Before a cure was developed, in a rash decision, fearing for Arith's life, Lorana uses some of the genetic material in the last of three rooms in an effort to save the young gold. Unknown to her, one of the vials she used contained a method for changing a watch-wher into a dragon. Never intended to be given to a dragon it began to alter Arith and in a panic she went between and traveled 400 (ish) Turns into the future to Wind Blossom, Emorra, and Tieran, Lorana's ancestors. When the dose was developed and there was only enough material for one dose, they injected Minith, who would pass the immunity on to the eggs and developing dragonets in her gravid state. The clutch of modified dragons would return, their ichor holding the cure for the rest of the dragons of Pern.

Notes[]

It is suggested in Dragon's Time that Lorana did not survive to the end of the Third Pass. A conversation between Tullea and Fiona, after Lorana flew forward in time to the Third Interval to beg for aid from the future, reveals that Lorana never got to know Tullea's true personality — Tullea's foul moods having been caused by being in multiple times at once. That suggests that Lorana either died shortly after the events of Sky Dragons, or that, for some other reason, Lorana and Tullea never crossed paths again after the events of Sky Dragons.
