K'tan was a dragonrider and Weyr healer for Benden Weyr late in the Second Interval and early in the Third Pass. His dragon was brown Drith.
Biography[]
When Kindan tried to warn all Pern weyrfolk by drum message that they must not provide aid to holders with the flu pandemic, K'tan told Kindan that in many weyrs there was no one to receive drum messages. And, since K'tan's dragon had told Salina’s Breth and Benden’s queen dragon had told the rest of the Weyrs, they were all aware of the danger.
After Lorana was found and brought to the Weyr by Tullea and B'nik, K'tan helped Lorana recover from the injuries she had incurred when she escaped from the Wind Rider. Then, Lorana and K'tan conferred on herbal remedies that might help treat Kindan's ailing fire lizard. When Lorana's gold Arith became ill, K'tan examined her.
When it was decided that information about a cure for the Dragon Plague might be found in the Benden Weyr Records Room, K'tan spent time looking through the records. He found information regarding an illness among the holders and crafters that apparently occurred once every twenty Turns.
After K'tan's Drith succumbed to the Dragon Plague, Ketan became very despondent. At Tullea's urging, Lorana took Minith back in time with the older Ketan to give the dragonrider one last chance to ride his beautiful brown dragon and, at the same time, save Weyrleader B'nik from death by taking his place.

As Ketan, he kept on working to find the cure for the dragons even after the loss of his brown Drith to the Dragon Plague.
