Benden Weyr

Jora was Weyrwoman at Benden Weyr late in the Eighth Interval. Her dragon was gold Nemorth.

Biography[]

Jora served as junior weyrwoman under Carola, Benden's Senior Weyrwoman. Carola's sudden death meant that Jora's Nemorth was the sole living queen dragon of her time. Jora was known to be romantically attached to F'lon, Benden's Weyrleader. Following F'lon's untimely death, Jora became unmanageable.

As Weyrwoman, Jora was extremely unpopular. She was widely described as incompetent, slothful, and obese. Though queens traditionally began laying larger clutches in the years prior to a pass, Jora's lack of control over Nemorth meant that Nemorth laid small clutches, usually no more than twelve. This was attributed to Jora's tendency to allow Nemorth to gorge unrestrained before mating flights. This would later be blamed for Benden Weyr's severe lack of numbers when Thread returned for the Ninth Pass.

Jora died late in the Eighth Interval, shortly after one of Nemorth's mating flights. Fortunately, this clutch contained Ramoth, the only queen egg Nemorth laid, providing for the continuation of the dragon species. After Jora's death, Nemorth died following the hatching of her eggs.

After her death, Jora was consistently referred to as an example of an incompetent Weyrwoman. F'lar quickly stopped comparing Lessa to Jora because, as he put it, 'there is no comparison'. In addition, Jora was held responsible for the decline of the Weyr due to her indirect encouragement of laziness and sloth.

Personality and traits[]

Jora was lazy and stubborn, which made her an incompetent Weyrwoman. Her negative traits became worse after the death of F'lon. She had a lack of control over her dragon, which affected Nemorth's mating flights. Jora was noted to be afraid of heights.
