Ging was a species of tree native to Pern. It was commonly found growing alongside needlethorn bushes.

Ging trees grew near Ista, Nerat, and Paradise River Hold. Fronds from the ging tree produced a sap that acted as a natural glue that could be used to seal puncture wounds. Cut leaves could be also be made into packages to carry thorns from the nearby needlethorn bushes. The more tender fronds had more sap and were more supple. Ging fronds were also used as impromptu bedding in the forest. Ging trees had creamy flowers. The opening of these flowers coincided with the dormant phase of the needlethorn plant, when the otherwise poisonous spines could be harvested safely.

Moreta described the ging forest in the fall as "a green face with a thousand black-rimmed eyes." Moreta showed Alessan how to break them with a hard jerk down. She used the sap to close the packages.
