Drudges are people that do unskilled or semi-skilled work in Holds, Halls, and Weyrs. They are usually not intelligent enough to be in a craft, but perform more basic things like kitchen work, serving, cleaning, sewing or laundry.

Description[]

Drudges are the lowest level workers in a Weyr, Hold, or Hall, performing a variety of manual labor. People who work as drudges may have mental disabilities or other issues that prevent them from learning a craft or other trade. Drudges are supervised by the Headwoman of the location, though a hold's Steward might also provide instruction or discipline as needed. Treatment of drudges could vary depending on the location's leadership. For example, the drudges who worked at Ruatha Hold during Fax's reign were noted to be underfed and struggling with disease. Due to their perceived rank, some Pernese would disguise themselves as drudges when needing to avoid identification.

History[]

During the First Interval/Second Pass, Bitran drudges attending the major Hold wore livery.[1] Since they didn't understand drum codes, Nerilka used that as a way to get out of Fort Hold, and as Rill.

During the years of Fax's reign, Lessa, the last remaining person of Ruathan blood, disguised herself as a drudge for years until she could have the chance of regaining her ancestral hold. When Fax's downfall came, Robinton later revealed that he had entered Ruatha disguised as Drudge.
