Ista Weyr

Caylith was a gold dragon at Ista Weyr during both the Eighth Pass and the Ninth Pass. Her rider was Cosira.

Biography[]

Caylith was a junior queen at Ista Weyr during the Eighth Pass and into the Ninth Pass. Following the death of Fanna, Ista's senior Weyrwoman, Caylith and Cosira rose to become Ista's senior pair, after which time Fanna's weyrmate D'ram chose to step down.

D'ram then invoked the Oldtimer tradition of declaring Caylith's next mating flight open, as a way to ensure that the the best replacement Weyrleader would be chosen. Though each Weyr sent their best men, the favorite was Barnath, a bronze dragon Impressed to Oldtimer G'dened, as he had mated with Caylith before.

When Caylith rose, T'kul and several other exiled Oldtimers attempted to join the flight. Their advanced age caused them to fail. The death of T'kul's dragon caused T'kul to enter a grief-maddened rage, where he attempted to kill F'lar but was killed instead. After the battle was over, it was learned that Caylith had been flown by Barnath, making G'dened the new Weyrleader.

Caylith remained as senior queen during the AIVAS years and beyond. After the dragons learned of their telekinetic abilities, Caylith was noted to be in excellent color, something that was considered difficult to obtain in older dragons.

Note[]

The only places that Cosira and Caylith are specifically noted as being Oldtimers are The White Dragon, when F'lar tells Lord Holder Corman of Keroon Hold that Caylith was one of Mirath's laying, and Dragonquest, when T'bor thought to himself that "Fanna's Mirath hadn't produced a single golden egg since she'd come between time." Therefore, Cosira impressed Caylith either during the Eighth Pass or early in the Eighth Interval.
